Increasing economic mobility and health equity in Central Providence

Too often in America, geography is destiny. Research shows that where you live is one of the most significant contributors to health outcomes and life expectancy. From housing, healthcare, and education quality to exposure to environmental toxins and burdens, the resources and conditions in communities drive health, wellbeing, and economic outcomes for its residents. We’re empowering people and investing capital for a stronger community.

A Guiding Document for our Collective Work

The Central Providence Roadmap

The first comprehensive, community-built collective impact plan focused on the nine neighborhoods in 02908 and 02909 ZIP codes. The Central Providence Roadmap is about collectively imagining – and working together to realize – a future with greater health and economic equity.

Highlighting Our Impact

Community Loan Fund

We’ve deployed $510,000 in loans to small businesses

Credit and collateral gaps prevent business owners in Central Providence from accessing traditional and alternative sources of capital. To address this, we provide low-interest, flexible capital for people who operate a small business or nonprofits.

Participatory Budgeting

We democratically allocated $1 million to improve community health

The Nine Neighborhood Fund is the largest and one of the first participatory budgeting initiatives in the state of Rhode Island. Through this process, those who lived in or went to school in Central Providence determined how to spend $1 million in their community to advance health equity.
